Failed boot.... how to proceed?

#1

So today I enabled UFW… silly me… sigh. Reboot failed… console was blank… but possibly failing to refresh as cursor was blinking halfway down…

I rebooted into the rescue console and confirmed that UFW was not turned on.

Rebooted again, this time left the console onscreen (didn’t go to make a cup of tea) and got the text below…

So, what does this mean? Previously Scaleways tech support told me that sometimes you cannot boot because they run out of available hardware (apparently they just give your hardware away)… is this that? Is something broken in scalways data centre? is there tftp server overloaded?

Best thing to do: move somewhere else

#3

Yup, we’re doing so. Scaleways response (“Just keep trying to reboot.”) is utterly appalling.

On paper there service should be brilliant, but it’s basically not even beta quality at the moment. We’ve just purchased new servers with Hetzner and Digital Ocean to complete our move away.

#4

Hetzner and do are a great and reliable choice.

#5

Hetzner is much better, but not the best. They only fix their servers during the working hours (09.00-17.00). I have about 10 hours of downtime per month (summary) on 8 vservers. That’s still far from 99.9% uptime.
